Using Open Supply Chain Data to Collaborate on Responses to Unrest in Bangladesh

Looking to understand how the recent unrest and unfolding events in Bangladesh are affecting particular production locations or zones, and the communities they touch? Want to coordinate on collaborative information-gathering and response efforts? Here are some examples of ways you can make use of Open Supply Hub’s free and open dataset to get started:

Understanding Your Organization’s Connection to Affected Production Locations

Have you contributed a dataset to Open Supply Hub (OS Hub) and want to see which locations in that dataset could be affected?

Search for your organization name under “Data Contributors” and then under Country, select Bangladesh.

Open Supply Hub Contributor Search in Bangladesh

From here, you can:

Zoom in and draw more specific regions/neighborhoods/industrial areas to narrow your search.

Download your full Bangladesh dataset to see who else is connected to each facility and coordinate on response efforts.

Learn more about how to perform these, and other searches, in our step-by-step search guide.

NOTE: If your search is resulting in more than 10,000 facilities and you wish to download those results, you can reach out to our team to receive a custom download from OS Hub.

Investigating News of Factories Shutting Down or Affected by Protests?

Whether you are receiving your own reports from stakeholders on the ground or investigating follow-ups from news stories as they come to light (like “Five textile, garment and plastic mills set on fire” or “Garment factories shut down for indefinite period“), you can search for affected facilities in OS Hub to learn more about their operations and which other stakeholders are connected to them. Simply type the factory name into the “Facility Name or OS ID” field, as pictured below:

Once you select your facility, follow this video to navigate to the stakeholders connected to a facility profile:

Taking Collaborative Action

Once you know which factories you are looking into and who your collaborators might be, leverage resources from experts on crisis response to understand what kinds of interventions you can take together. We’ve included a few example links below, but encourage stakeholders to do their own due diligence on which organizations’ advice to follow:

– Multi-Stakeholder Initiative Recommendations: Joint statement for responsible business conduct in Bangladesh

– How brands and retailers can support their manufacturing partners amid political transition in Bangladesh

We hope this resource provides a starting point for information-sharing and collaboration during a rapidly-changing situation, which will continue to develop and require different levels of response and support in the coming weeks and months. If you have any questions about how to use OS Hub or feedback on resources like these, please don’t hesitate to contact our team.
